Better collections start with clearer communications. Train your healthcare administrators to speak clearly with patients at the very beginning. Not sure how? Include this script as part of your pre-encounter process:
“Your procedure will most likely be $____________ and your insurance, less deductible or any copays, will pay ______ percent. You should expect an estimated balance that you will owe out of your pocket of $__________.”
Don’t forget to talk about insurance.
“It will likely take up to a month before your insurance pays. We need to talk about planning for this expense and if there are going to be any issues of meeting that obligation once your insurance has paid.”
